Muslim girls to seek justice for slain MU proctor

IMPHAL: A three-member delegation of the All Manipur Muslim Girl Students' Union will leave for New Delhi on Wednesday to to seek justice for the family of slain Manipur University (MU) proctor Md Islamuddin.

The delegation, which will be headed by the union president M Ruksher Choudhury, will also meet leaders of the All India Muslim Girl Students' Union (AIMGSU) to highlight problems of Muslim girl students in Manipur.

"Besides insisting upon the Central leaders including the prime minister and the home minister to bring justice to the brutal murder of the proctor, we will also meet AIMGSU leaders on separate issues concerning our plight," Ruksher said.

MU vice chancellor C Amuba Singh had a meeting with the university's heads of department and deans on Monday to review the situation arising out of the campus killing.

The underground Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) has already claimed responsibility for gunning down Md Islamudddin inside the MU campus at Canchipur here on May 25.

With the male hostelites vacating their rooms charging the police commandos of conducting repeated raids at their hostels, MU authorities have postponed the second semester examinations.

The 3rd India Reserve Battalion jawan, Kangjam Dimajit (30) who surrendered to the police in connection with the incident, has been remanded to police custody for a week for further interrogation. A duty magistrate made the order on Sunday.
