Top three in HSLC set themselves even higher goals for future

IMPHAL, Jun 2 : This year`s HSLC examination 2009 topper Waikhom Nydia feels that constant disturbance to the academic atmosphere in the form of holidays, strikes and other similar happenings disrupts the academic calendar and is a big dampener to the spirits of serious students. Nydia is the daughter of W Tombi, a driver by profession, and Radharani, a nurse, staying at the Kakching super market in Thoubal district.

Nydia further said that though Manipur is full of problems in Kakching at least students were able to study without much disturbance.

She also said that because of prevailing conditions in Manipur, she would prefer to study outside the state, although there are good colleges and private institutions in the state. She is aiming to join the engineering course at the IIT.

She also said that she used an inverter throughout her preparations for the exams, and asked the authorities to look into the matter of providing proper electricity in the state.

Nydia said her easier subjects, which were also her favorites, were History and Mathematics and said that she studied at the Padma Ratna English School in Kakching from Nursery till Class X, without changing any schools in between.

Nydia gave credit for her achievement to her father, mother, brother and sisters, and also the teachers and friends who encouraged her in her studies.

Meanwhile, the locals of Kakching were very excited on coming to know that a girl from amongst them had topped the HSLC exam and raised up a big portrait of Nydia at the Kakching bazar.

It may be mentioned that Kakching has traditionally been producing many good students. Some of the products of schools from Kakching are Y Sangita who is now a senior scientist in USA, Lalit who is also now a senior scientist in USA and Kh Jogendro who is at present doing his research at the Texas University in USA.

The second position holder in the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examination 2009, Ningombam Pareeton feels that one needs to be punctual, hard working and sincere to achieve anything in life.

Pareeton Ningombam who hails from Khongman Zone II, is the son of Ningombam Birendra and Ningombam Ongbi Bilasini and studied at the Catholic School, Canchipur. He scored a total of 619 marks with letter marks in Alternative English, English, Mathematics, Science, Social Science and Higher Mathematics.

Pareeton wants to become an Aeronautics Engineer in his life, and gave the whole credit for his success to his family members, teachers and friends who gave him all help and support. Though he was satisfied with the second position in the examination, he has set his eyes on the first position next time around in the Class XII examination, he said.

Being a bright student in his entire schooling years, he always took first or second position in the state and national level competitive examinations held in the state. He was also always placed first or second during his entire academic career. He started from the Paradise Academy studying in the Nursery to Class IV, and later continued his studies at Catholic School. He wants to complete his XIIth standard in Manipur.

Pareeton studies around six hours daily and also enjoys reading novels and journals in his leisure time.

Yensembam Chetan, who is from Langthabal Mantrikhong Awang Leikai, took the third position in the examination and felt that if one believes in God, in his own self and has confidence to achieve goals, then no one could stop him from getting what he wants.

Chetan is the son of Yensembam Iboyaima and Yensembam Ongbi Purnima and studied at the Standard Roberth Higher Secondary School, Canchipur from Nursery to Class X. He scored a total of 613 marks with letter marks in Alternative English, English, Mathematics, Science, Social Science and Higher Mathematics.

Though he is satisfied with his results he felt that he would have got more marks if the examination centre had provided him graph papers in the higher mathematics examination. He was asked to use blank paper in the said subject by the invigilator causing him inconvenience.

But according to Chetan`s father who is a taxi driver with the Airport Taxi Service one has to accept the outcome but at the same time try to do better in future examinations. Though his father did not give much attention to his son due to his own work he felt he had provided all the requirements his son asked for. Chetan`s mother was also always supportive and encouraged him in his studies.

Chetan`s aim in life is to try for the Civil Services. He wants to study in Manipur till Class XII and complete his higher studies outside the state. He also shared all his credit with his family members, teachers, and friends and especially `Sir Joy` who guided him.

As far as his school Standard Robarth School is concerned, he maintained that his school had always been his motivation and whatever he was today was due to his school teachers commitment and support for him.

Chetan is the eldest son of two siblings in the family and loves watching television, listening to music and playing games in his leisure time.
