IGNOU unveils diploma programme in security operations

New Delhi, May 30 : Aiming to train around one lakh security guards by the year 2011, IGNOU today launched a diploma programme in security operations in association with Security Skill Council of India (SSCI).

"The aim is to train one lakh security personnel by 2011 as demand for security personnel has increased manifold in recent past in view of the heightened threat perception," said IGNOU vice-chancellor Rajasekharan Pillai at the launch.

The programme will kickstart from January next year, and is open to graduates, under-graduates from all streams.

The SSCI would impart the training and IGNOU would act as the monitoring agency, the VC said, adding the varsity is the nodal agency for training 21,500 BPL youths under the SGSY programme for skill development and youths from this segment can also enrol for the programme.
