Students tell official to resign

Kohima, March 20 : The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has demanded the immediate resignation of Nihoshe Sumi, the parliamentary secretary for industries and commerce, alleging his involvement in the manipulation of answer scripts of the Nagaland Civil Service and Allied Services examinations.
Two of Sumi’s children recently got through the civil service examinations.
The federation said the parliamentary secretary and his children were involved in the answer script scam, in connection with which 13 candidates have already been taken into custody.
It said there was clear evidence of Sumi’s involvement and urged chief minister Neiphiu Rio to drop the parliamentary secretary.
Sumi is an Independent MLA from Zunheboto town Assembly constituency.
The students’ federation has chalked out an agitation plan if the parliamentary secretary failed to resign.
It said it would start an agitation in the form of a dharna at old MLA hostel junction from 10.30am tomorrow.
The federation’s president, Imchatoba Imchen, has requested students from Class VIII and above to take part in the demonstration.
He said there was no thorough investigation into the scam, prompting the students to begin an agitation.
The federation has also called for an emergency meeting of its units tomorrow — after the dharna — to discuss the issue.
At least two NPSC officials are in custody, while controller of examination Kavili Jakhalu has been granted bail.
The state government is investigating the matter.
